Electronic Arts CEO: “NFTs will become an integral part of the gaming industry”

The CEO of one of the largest video game developers Electronic Arts, Andrew Wilson, believes that in the near future, non-fungible tokens will become an important part of the gaming industry.

According to
decryption Transcripts of Electronic Arts’ quarterly conference, Andrew Wilson said the NFT industry and the “play-to-earn” concept of financial incentives to participate in games has great potential. According to Wilson, rewarding players with tokens can help them become more involved in games.

“Now there is a lot of talk about NFT, there is a lot of excitement around this industry. I really believe that collectible tokens will become an integral part of the gaming and entertainment industry. But as far as our services are concerned, it is too early to think about how to implement NFT in them. Perhaps in the future we will show a more creative and innovative approach to this issue, ”said Wilson.

Gaming giant Electronic Arts became interested in collectible tokens a few months ago, starting to publish vacancies for specialists in blockchain and NFT. While Electronic Arts is exploring the possibilities of non-fungible tokens, other computer games companies have already plunged into this space. Last week, Electronic Arts rival Ubisoft announced plans to start developing blockchain games that will use NFTs.

However, not every player in the gaming industry is open to implementing these innovations. Steam, the largest platform for buying and running PC games, recently banned developers from publishing blockchain and NFT games. At the same time, the leadership of Steam explained that digital assets have real value, and it is for this reason that they should not be present on the platform.
