Elementary school students in Germany with sewer gas poisoning in hospital

Nine elementary school students in Arensfeld, Brandenburg were taken to hospital with symptoms of poisoning, while 14 more returned to their homesas they inhaled contaminated gases from the sewage system.

According to the announcement of the fire department, the children of one class presented symptoms of poisoning at the same time, with a severe headache and vomiting. The classroom was evacuated and 20 ambulances and rescuers rushed to the school.

Nine of the children had to be taken to hospital, while the remaining 14, who had milder symptoms, returned home. The possibility of food poisoning was ruled out and, as found, due to the bad weather affecting the area since the night, a valve in the sewage system had broken, as a result of which polluted gases were released. The damage was repaired before noon.
