Eleven states record deaths from the H3N2 variant of influenza

Eleven states have already recorded deaths from the H3N2 variant of influenza as of late Tuesday afternoon (11), according to a survey by the CNN Agency.

Deaths were confirmed in Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro, Bahia, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Sergipe, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Piauí and Paraíba.

Three states recognize an epidemic scenario: Rio de Janeiro, Paraíba and Pernambuco. Another five say they are in an outbreak situation: Espírito Santo, Rondônia, Rio Grande do Norte, Goiás and Pará.

Only two states have not yet registered cases of flu syndrome due to the new variant: Acre and Alagoas.

The Ministry of Health states that “it carefully assesses the increase in cases of influenza in the states”. The folder also states that “there is no pending in the sending of doses of flu vaccines to any state.”

“The 80 million doses of vaccines acquired for the National Influenza Vaccination Campaign were distributed to the states and the Federal District in a proportional way and destined to the specific publics of the campaign”, claims the Ministry of Health in a note to the Ministry of Health. CNN.

According to the Influenza Panel of the federal government, 67.9 million doses of the flu vaccine have been applied so far. However, the number is about 12 million below the stipulated target audience of 79.7 million.

The vaccine available this year for Influenza was not designed to contain precisely the strain that is in circulation, called Darwin. It is among the mutations elected by the World Health Organization (WHO) last year.

The Darwin strain, identified in samples collected by the so-called sentinel units of influenza surveillance, belongs to the group of H3N2 viruses, but this year, the mutation chosen for the vaccine was another, the named Hong Kong strain.
