At just 18, Elisa Maino has at its disposal an arsenal that would be the envy of a leader. With his 2 million and 600 thousand followers on Instagram and its 5 million and 600 thousand on TikTok, about a million more than those of Chiara Ferragni, Elisa is one of the most followed and appreciated teenagers not only by teenagers, but also by adults who look at her work with interest and argue about a collaboration with her. From the role of Brand Ambassador of L’Oréal Paris to the contents created for international brands such as Etro, Shiseido and Dolce & Gabbana, Maino also has two books to his credit, Ops e Do not forget me, and a documentary, Ops – The event, available on Prime Video.
At the moment, however, the priority remains one: to finish school. Elisa, originally from Rovereto but raised in Arco, is in the fourth year of classical high school who, due to the pandemic, had to adapt to the measures by channeling most of the face-to-face lessons into the infamous distance learning: “It’s going better than last year, even if I don’t like dad so much: we learn a lot less, being at home with our distractions ”Elisa tells on the phone from Milan, confirming that not being able to do the versions in class represents for her and her classmates” a sore point “for their training.
Does she do everything in dad?
“Living in Trentino and attending school in Milan it is easier for me, even if when there is a check to be done I come in presence. I’m a bit worried about the situation: for this year’s exams I read that there will be no writings, but only the oral paper. We will see for the next ».
She seems very well informed. Do you like to be updated on current events?
“A lot, I think it’s essential to know what’s happening in the world and not be blind.”
In your opinion, who follows you on social media read the newspapers?
“A part of my audience reads newspapers and books like me: newspapers are important because they always allow you to find food for thought on many things”.
What book are you reading now?
“I bought all the books by Roberto Emanuelli, but I still have to read them because I have little time in this period”.
Do you like TV series?
“I like them a lot, but even here I have little time to wade them. I love those of Prime, but also those of Netflix: I’ve seen Fate: The Winx Saga and I would like to start WandaVision, but I can only dedicate myself to them when I’m calm, otherwise I don’t enjoy them because I am stressed about the things I still have to complete between school and work ».
Do you manage to carve out free time?
«Incredibly yes, although I must admit that I don’t like to be bored. It’s nice to always have your hands on it. I sleep little, however, that yes ».
How many hours?
“Maximum seven”.
Are weekends for you for work or leisure?
«I usually study, but I also take the opportunity to be with my family and my dog. In a while, however, I will move to Milan: I bought a house and I’m super happy ».
What is independence for you?
«Knowing to fly with your own wings, I also wrote in my bio. In life you must always rely on yourself: if you depend on someone, their problems will become yours. “
You need to know who to trust: she, for example, relies on her parents.
“Without my mother I never sign a contract: we are a perfect team, having a person who knows more than you is a plus”.
Despite Covid, are you satisfied with how your work is evolving?
«A lot, I’m very happy. When I collaborate for a brand it is always nice to see that a very special bond is created with the people who work there ».
It is always called to be connected, if one day she wanted to disconnect could she do it freely?
“Absolutely yes. What I post is all my own work, and it can happen that a week goes by without publishing a post: the important thing is that it is all spontaneous, otherwise people understand it. It must also be said that I love what I do so much that I hardly want to disconnect completely. Maybe it happens that I turn off the phone one day, but then I suffer if I am not updated on what is happening ».
In interviews they always ask her if she feels the responsibility of numbers.
“The responsibility is there, I’m just sorry that not all my colleagues understand it. Often you do not have the perception of how much power one has but, in my small way, I always try to always pay close attention to what I publish: mine, in this, are very close to me, I try to share content on important issues such as body positivity. I have had acne for a long time and have been made fun of for it: these are things that touch me because I have experienced them ».
Yet many journalists and many people think that influencers are the “evil”. We also think about the recent case of TikTok.
“Often these are people who are not on social media, turn on the TV and see that an influencer who has done a negative thing is highlighted. Those who send positive messages that help others are hardly ever valued: people look at someone who makes a fool of themselves and thinks that everyone is like that, but it is a very wrong thing “.
Solution?
“Move forward, continue on your way and don’t stop only at posts and stories, grow as people”.
In fact, she carries out many activities between writing and fashion.
«I have a job that I like and that I hope to do for a long time, but we must not forget that there are other things, such as culture, school. I don’t want to focus only on this one because if social networks disappear tomorrow I need to have other objectives ».
Which ones are they?
«I like to write, talk, one day I would even see myself presenting something. I love the world of fashion as my mother loves it: my dream is to have a brand with her. However, there is also another part of me that loves the world of medicine and dreams of becoming a surgeon. I would like to carry on each of these things in the future ».
Did the weight of expectation ever get the better of you?
“Fortunately not, even if I always try to be the best form of myself, I expect a lot from myself. I want to always be at the top: that’s how I built my career ».
There’s also room for a more private side, like the post she shared on Valentine’s Day with her boyfriend.
«Generally I am a person who likes to have the situation in hand, but we must not forget about spontaneity. Naturalness is part of me and I’m not ashamed to show my weaker sides: it is important to make others understand that you too have flaws, otherwise people will only look at the wonderful things you publish and will be convinced that perfection is that stuff there, but it’s wrong. Having defects and recognizing them is normal ”.
At 18, he got things that some people fight all their lives to get. What other dreams do you have left?
«I think one should never feel like they have arrived, they should never set a goal because it could preclude a thousand other possibilities. I have a whole wardrobe of dreams that I hope to achieve, but I don’t want to rush through the stages: for now I want to finish school and finish it well. It is obvious, then, that there are bigger dreams that one day, since they are a bit superstitious, I hope to be able to tell. We’ll see”.
