Elizabeth Debicki and Emma Corrin, double tribute to Lady Diana

Elizabeth Debicki and Emma Corrin as Lady Diana: the actresses, both cinematic alter-egos of the princess in two different historical phases of The Crown, they paid homage to his memory with looks implicitly inspired by his style. Watching them on the red carpet of the London premiere of the final episodes of the sixth season (arriving this December 14th on Netflix) is a real balm for the heart, indeed it sweetens a bitter pill: like it or not, for fans of the royal family it is impossible don’t already feel a hint of nostalgia for the most famous TV series on the history of the house of Windsor.

Years later, it is still difficult to clarify the jewel that linked the two unfortunate lovers. The testimonies are conflicting: it is not known whether the princess actually responded Yes to the proposal inherent in the very name of the ring designed by Repossi, Dis-moi oui

The Australian actress Elizabeth Debicki, who played Lady D in the crowning moment of her life (also giving us the iconic fashion moment of the revenge dress, a dress that is now up for auction), she walked the red carpet at the premiere held this December 5th in London with a wonderful Dior Haute Couture dress. Created by creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri, the dress looks like a long white georgette cape, and was expertly embroidered in the Dior ateliers with micro-sequins and micro-pearls. The look was then enhanced by the choice of jewels, Dior Couture in turn: a white gold earring and earcuff with diamonds, as well as rings in white gold, rose gold and diamonds. Like a real Spencer, only in another space of time.

Archive photographs in hand, Elizabeth Debicki’s look can only immediately recall the wonderful one-shoulder dress that the then Princess of Wales wore to the gala dinner at the National Gallery in Washington DC on November 11, 1985. Made of chiffon, that dress created for Diana by the Japanese designer Hachi was itself embroidered with great skill, with meticulous pearls and precious crystals. She, by rights, is an authentic and true Spencer.

But Elizabeth Debicki wasn’t the only one to pay homage to Lady Diana’s eternal style. Also Emma Corrinprotagonist of the series in the fifth season of The Crownbrought to the red carpet of the Royal Festival Hall a look by Miu Miu which Prince Charles’ ex-wife would certainly wink at today: what do his tuxedo jacket and bow tie remind us of?

Nothing but Lady Diana’s bow tie looks. Like the one in April 1985, when the princess wore it over a white suit by Jasper Conran during her visit to Florence with Prince Charles. And also the one from a year before her, in February 1984, when she added it to Margaret Howell’s tuxedo for the look she showed off while leaving Birmingham airport. Diana, an ante-litteram style icon beyond any time limit.
