Elizabeth II Defined Queen Camilla’s “Future” in February

In a message published on 5 February this year, Queen Elizabeth II, who died on Thursday (8), used the date of her Platinum Jubilee to redefine the future of the monarchy, elevating the Duchess of Cornwall to Queen when Charles became Queen. king.

When Charles married camilla in 2005, the couple announced that she intended to be known as “princess consort” despite being entitled to the title of queen.

The gesture was seen, even at that time, as an acknowledgment of the sensibility surrounding a title that was intended for Charles’ first wife, Diana — it’s the same reason Camilla doesn’t use the title “Princess of Wales”.

“Tomorrow, February 6th, marks the 70th anniversary of my accession in 1952. It is a day that, even after 70 years, I still very much remember as the death of my father, King George VI, as the beginning of my reign.

With the mark of this anniversary, it is with great pleasure that I renew to you the oath I swore in 1947 that my life would always be dedicated to your service.

As I look forward with a sense of hope and optimism to my Platinum Jubilee year, I am reminded of all that I must be grateful for. These last seven decades have seen extraordinary progress socially, technologically and culturally that has benefited us all; and I am confident that the future will offer similar opportunities for us, especially for younger generations in the UK and Commonwealth.

I am fortunate to have had the firm and loving support of my family. I was blessed to have a partner in Prince Philip who was willing to unselfishly carry the role of consort, making the necessary sacrifices. It’s a role I’ve watched my mother play my entire life during my father’s reign.

This anniversary also gives me time to reflect on the goodwill shown to me by people of all nationalities, religions and ages in this country and around the world during these years. I would like to express my thanks to everyone for their support. I remain eternally grateful, and humbled, for the loyalty and affection you continue to give me.

And as I continue to look forward to serving you with all my heart, I hope that this Jubilee will bring together families and friends, neighbors and communities — after such difficult times for some of us — to enjoy the celebrations and reflect on the positive developments in our lives. daily lives that so happily coincided with my reign.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth”
