Ellen Degeneres reveals diagnosis of osteoporosis, ADHD and OCD

Presenter Ellen Degeneres, 66, revealed during her Netflix special, “Ellen Degeneres: For Your Approval”, that she was diagnosed with three different illnesses: osteoporosis, attention deficit disorder (ADHD) and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).

Osteoporosis was discovered by the American during a bone density exam, as reported by People. The disease is characterized by a decrease in bone mass and deterioration of bone tissue, which can lead to increased bone fragility and the risk of fractures; and, according to the Ministry of Health, it affects around 50% of women over 50 years of age.

“I don’t even know how I’m standing right now. I’m a human sandcastle, I can fall apart in the shower”, declared Ellen in the special that premiered on Netflix on Tuesday (24). “I had a really bad pain one day and I thought I had torn a ligament or something. I had an MRI and they said: ‘no, it’s just arthritis’”, he said.

Ellen also revealed that she was diagnosed with OCD in therapy, after being the target of accusations about maintaining a toxic work environment. According to the Mayo Clinic, the disease causes a pattern of unwanted thoughts and fears that lead the patient to have repetitive behaviors and compulsions.

“I didn’t know what OCD was. I was raised in a religion, Christian Science, that does not recognize illnesses or disorders. So when I was growing up, nobody talked about anything. There was no discussion about anything,” said the presenter.

According to her, her father also exhibited obsessive behaviors related to protecting the house.

“He would check the doorknob 15 times before going to bed, check the taps 15 times and unplug everything before leaving because lightning or a fire could hit the house,” he said. “They say it could be hereditary.”

The American also spoke about how she lives with ADHD, a neurobiological disorder characterized by inattention , hyperactivity and impulsiveness . She pointed out that she had difficulty focusing on anything.

“My ADHD makes it very difficult for me to sit and focus on anything. That is, do you understand how difficult it was for me to do all this? Of course not,” he declared. “I have ADHD, I have OCD, I am losing my memory. I think I’m functional because I’m obsessed with things, but I don’t have enough attention to stick to them and I quickly forget what I was obsessed with before,” he explained.
