Ellen Pompeo says goodbye to Grey’s Anatomy after 19 seasons: “show must go on”

Longest medical series ever produced, Grey’s Anatomy prepares to say goodbye to Meredith Grey, the central character of the North American attraction. After a long period of 19 seasons, Ellen Pompeo who gives life to the character, announced that he is leaving the program in an Instagram post on Thursday (17).

“I am forever grateful for the love and support you all have shown me, Meredith GRAY and the show over 19 seasons!” said Ellen. “After all… none of this… would have been possible without the best fans in the world,” she continues, in a statement repeated on occasions like the People’s Choice Awards.

Ellen highlighted the love for the fans and did not rule out returning to the series in the future. 🇧🇷Y’all know the show must go on and I will definitely be back to visit them. With much love and immense gratitude,” she said.

Longevity

With 19 seasons, Grey’s Anatomy surpasses the medical series ER (Medical Plant in Brazil), from 1994, which had 15 seasons. Created in 2005 by Shonda Rhimes the attraction has a legion of fans in Brazil, who have followed Meredith Gray’s life since medical school.

Over the years, Gray went from being an intern to being a resident at a hospital in Seattle, USA. Her growth as a professional was accompanied by personal challenges, such as affective relationships, children, childhood traumas and losses.

Grey’s Anatomy is also recognized for the farewell of great names from the original cast such as Isaiah Washington (Preston Burke), TR Knight (George O’Malley), Katherine Heigl (Izzie Stevens), Sandra Oh (Cristina Yang), Patrick Dempsey (Derek Shepherd) , Chyler Leigh (Lexie Grey), Eric Dane (Mark Sloan), Justin Chambers (Alex Karev), Sara Ramírez (Callie Torres), Jessica Capshaw (Arizona Robbins), Jesse Williams (Jackson Avery), Sarah Drew (April Kepner).
