Elliot Page and the new selfie on Instagram

After revealing the first details in an interview with Time last spring, Elliot Page explained, during the The Oprah Conversation on Apple TV +, that he chose to share his story for a substantial reason: “I want people to know that it not only changed my life, but saved it.” Since then, Page has been praised for using his platform (7.4 million followers between Twitter and Instagram) to raise awareness in the community and speak casually and consciously about being trans.

On 22 August, on the occasion ofOutfest Los Angeles LGBTQ Film Festival, will be awarded the prestigious Outfest Annual Achievement Award: “It’s a great honor,” Page said in a statement released to People. “Now more than ever, it’s important that our voices are amplified and represented in movies and the media, and that people hear our stories.”
