Tesla updated the Cybertruck configurator page a few days ago, moving the production start date from late 2021 to 2022. The source says that the delay is caused by the fact that the company’s engineers and designers have just finalized the design and decided on the size of the electric pickup. This information was announced by an insider who refers to the company’s employees.
The head of Tesla Elon Musk always closely monitors the car development process. In this connection, Tesla engineers, led by former head of the engineering department Doug Field (Doug Field), developed a version of the Model Y with a steering wheel, in fact, in secret from Elon Musk, behind him.
In January 2021, the head of Tesla said that the design of the Cybertruck was almost finalized. However, just a month later, Musk stated during the Joe Rogan Experience podcast that the Cybertruck is still undergoing some minor design changes regarding size. He clarified that the Cybertruck, unveiled at Hawthorne Design Studio in November 2019, was “pretty much what it will look like,” he added that most of the changes were to make it a little smaller.

The changes made to the Cybertruck’s design may also explain why Tesla decided to prioritize Model Y production at the Giga Texas factory, where it would later begin producing the Cybertruck. The company recently confirmed that the Model Y will be the first vehicle to be produced at the new plant.
Construction of the plant, located near Austin, Texas, is still ongoing, but sources say production could begin in the coming weeks.
Earlier it was reported that the company has collected more than 1.25 million pre-orders for Cybertruck.
