Power Play: Tesla, Elon Musk, and the Bet of the Century Kindle Edition by Tim Higgins of The Wall Street Journal describes an interesting conversation between Tesla founder Elon Musk and current Apple CEO Tim Cook. (Tim Cook).
The story took place in 2016: Cook and Musk allegedly discussed Apple’s purchase of Tesla, while Musk said he wanted to become CEO. The book says Cook immediately agreed, but Musk clarified that he wants to become Apple’s CEO. In response, the head of Apple responded rudely to Musk and the dialogue ended.
Yesterday, Elon Musk said that there was no such conversation: “Cook and I have never talked or wrote to each other.” He also said that he tried to meet with Cook about Apple’s Tesla acquisition, but Cook declined the meeting.
When asked to comment on this story, Cook also stated that he had ever spoken to Elon. “You know, I never spoke to Elon, although I have tremendous admiration and respect for the company he built.”
Musk also claims that most of the information in this book is false. “Higgins managed to make his book both fake and boring.” Obviously, Musk was not involved in the writing of Power Play: Tesla, Elon Musk, and the Bet of the Century Kindle Edition.
The author of the book noted in a side note that Musk was given numerous opportunities to comment on the stories, facts, and characteristics presented in these pages. Without pointing out any specific inaccuracies, he simply said, “Most, but not all, of what you read in this book is bullshit.”
