Elon Musk’s lawyers sent a new letter to Twitter, once again seeking to end the $44 billion purchase deal for the social media platform, now citing allegations by Peiter Zatko, the company’s former head of security.
Musk and his lawyers initially sent a letter to Twitter on July 8 to walk away from the deal, although Twitter has since questioned the validity of the gesture. Last month, Twitter started a lawsuit against Musk for trying to undo the deal.
In a new letter dated Aug. 29, which became public on Tuesday, Musk and his lawyers say Zatko’s allegations, if substantiated, would demonstrate Twitter’s breach of certain conditions in the purchase agreement. .
Musk’s lawyers say in the latest letter that the facts supporting Zatko’s allegation were known via Twitter, when the deal to sell the company was closed and when the billionaire Tesla founder sought to leave the business in July.
The allegations “provide additional basis for terminating the settlement today,” the lawyers say in the letter. In a complaint filed in July, Zatko accused Twitter of lying to Musk about the number of fake accounts or “robots” on the social network.
