Elon Musk is the first person with Asperger’s syndrome to lead the Saturday Night Live. Or, at least, that’s what he is convinced of. This is said by Tesla’s CEO himself in the monologue aired on NBC on May 8 that led him for the first time to talk about Asperger’s, a syndrome from which Greta Thunberg also suffers. “It is an honor to lead the Saturday Night Live. I’m making history tonight because I’m the first person with Asperger’s to run the show. Or, at least, the first to admit it, “explained Musk after joking on the monotonous tone with which he delivers his official speeches.

However, it is the viewers who point out that, in reality, this is not the case. The first conductor with autism spectrum disorder to take the stage of the Saturday Night Live it was, in fact, actor Dan Aykroyd in 2003 (he had found out he had Asperger’s syndrome in the 1980s), who also said he was struggling with Tourettes syndrome. Elon Musk’s monologue, in general, thus divided the audience between those who praised his courage and those who thought that his was just a message to captivate the critics and pull water to his mill.
Asperger’s syndrome is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects social interactions and non-verbal communication. It is an autism spectrum disorder that does not affect intelligence and language skills and which, more than anything else, is linked to a sort of “physical clumsiness”. Elon Musk is 49 years old, one of the richest and most powerful men on the planet and, al Saturday Night Live, proved to be very self-deprecating and relaxed. Especially when he convinced his mother Maye to take the stage to involve her in his monologue.
