The CEO of Tesla likes to surprise the world with unusual projects that no one even thought of taking on before him. For example, last year Elon Musk conditionally announced a humanoid robot, which, according to the developer, should provide physical labor to many areas around the world. Then, however, the robot was perceived solely as a concept, and not as a working project of the company, but Musk promised to present the first prototype as early as 2022. And now, during the presentation of the reports, Elon Musk officially told investors that the humanoid robot is the company’s most important product.
“I think over time it has the potential to become more significant than the car business,” Musk added of the robot, codenamed Optimus.
The reason why Tesla’s boss prefers a robot, which can take many years to create, rather than new electric cars, is the opportunity to make an economic revolution – Optimus will be able to perform certain types of work that are currently only available to people. Accordingly, with the help of a humanoid robot, Musk wants to give large corporations the opportunity to replace their human employees with machines. This really makes sense, because robots have no concept of fatigue or a chance to make any mistake based on human factors.
At the same time, Musk noted that the development of the robot does not at all make electric cars a secondary product – at the moment, due to the lack of chips, it is impossible to increase production volumes, but the company plans to keep the number of electric vehicles produced at the same level. Yes, and it is worthwhile to understand that Musk’s loud promises do not always come true – earlier, for example, in 2019, the head of Tesla promised to launch one million autonomous taxis by 2020, but to this day the company has not released a single such vehicle.
