Elon Musk Says Twitter Is “Delaying” Restarting Paid Verification

Elon Musk said on Monday night that Twitter is “postponing” the restart of its paid account verification plan due to ongoing concerns about impersonation on the social media platform.

“Deferring Blue Verified re-release until there is high confidence to stop representation,” Musk wrote in a tweet.

“Will likely use different color verification for organizations than individuals.”

The decision comes after the initial launch of Musk’s paid verification plan earlier this month led to a swarm of accounts posing as brands and high-profile figures, causing confusion on the platform and leading to an exodus of key advertisers.

The verification mark has long been used to confirm the authenticity of government officials, prominent figures and journalists.

To combat the chaos caused by the new verification system, Twitter rolled out a new badge on previously verified accounts, which consisted of a gray checkmark and the word “official” placed under the identifiers of accounts belonging to high-profile figures and media. of communication, including CNN 🇧🇷

Musk said last week that his $8-a-month Blue subscription plan would be available again on Nov. 29, but his Monday night statement suggested that schedule would no longer be adhered to.
