Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that the total number of employees of Tesla Inc. will rise, a day after announcing to employees that it plans to cut pay by 10%, according to Bloomberg.
The number of employees will be “quite stable”, even if the total number of employees increases, the billionaire said in a tweet.
Musk had previously told staff that the job cuts would not affect those building cars or batteries, according to people who received the internal note on Friday.
The auto industry collapsed more than 9% on Friday following news of job cuts.
Reuters had previously reported that Musk had told some company executives that he was widely cutting Tesla employees because he had a “super bad feeling” about the economy.
About 39% of Tesla’s approximately 100,000 employees were “production line workers,” according to the company’s annual report.
