Elon Musk’s daughter goes to court to change her name and cut ties with her father

One of Elon Musk’s sons has asked a California court to recognize his new name and gender, saying he wants to sever ties with his famous, wealthy father “in any way.”

Musk’s daughter turned 18 earlier this year and filed the claim in a Los Angeles court soon after. She requests that her legal name be changed to Vivian Jenna Wilson. Wilson is the surname of her mother Justine, Musk’s ex-wife and mother of five of his seven children.

Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, is the richest person in the world right now, with an estimated net worth of $214 billion.

The billionaire has already been criticized for some of his statements on Twitter about gender identity issues.

For example, in December 2020, Musk posted a now-deleted tweet that read “when you put him/her in your bio” alongside a drawing of an 18th century soldier rubbing blood on his face in front of a pile of corpses and wearing a hat that said “I love to oppress”.

In response to the criticism, Musk wrote: “I absolutely support trans, but all these pronouns are an aesthetic nightmare.” He also pointed out that Tesla earned a 100% rating from the Human Rights Campaign as one of the “Best Places to Work for LGBTQ+ Equality,” a score he holds to this day.

Musk also said he is leaning toward supporting Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in the 2024 presidential election. DeSantis recently supported and signed a bill, known to critics as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, to limit discussions of homosexuality. and trans issues in state public schools.

News of Musk’s daughter’s proposal broke over the weekend on social media and celebrity news site The Blast, as well as the Los Angeles Times. There is a hearing for the case scheduled for this Friday (24).

On Sunday (19), Musk celebrated Father’s Day on Twitter, writing, “I love all my kids so much.”

CNN Business was unable to contact Vivian Jenna Wilson for comment.
