Elon Musk’s first meeting with Twitter employees takes place this Thursday

Elon Musk will speak to Twitter employees for the first time since he began showing interest in the company in April. A general meeting is scheduled for this Thursday (15).

According to a spokesperson, the announcement was made to employees via an email sent by Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, who also said questions can be sent to Musk in advance. Also according to the spokesperson, the company’s head of marketing, Leslie Berland, will mediate the event.

In late April, Twitter accepted Musk’s $44 billion offer to acquire the company and take it private. Musk later said the deal was on hold due to concerns about the accuracy of the company’s estimates of spam accounts on its social media platform. Earlier this month, the billionaire threatened to cancel the transaction, accusing the company of not fulfilling his request for spam account data.

Even with the meeting scheduled for Thursday, it’s not yet possible to determine whether Musk’s plans to speak with Twitter employees mean the two sides have reached an agreement.

Twitter shares – which are trading below Musk’s offer price amid investor doubts about the deal’s completion – rose nearly 3% on New York stock exchanges yesterday following the announcement of the general meeting. The price of the paper ended last trading session at about $37, well below Musk’s offer price of $54.20.

Uncertainty over the outcome of the deal left employees worried about their jobs, and some began planning to lay off, while others said selling the company to Musk could help with recruitment. The scenario has also raised questions about how to operate a platform with around 229 million daily users as its possible future owner uses it to publicly attack the company.

Musk said he would make significant changes to Twitter by purchasing it, including offering longer tweets, creating an edit button, and making the platform’s algorithm public. He also talked about relying less on advertising and softening Twitter’s stance on content moderation. In May, Musk said he would reverse former President Donald Trump’s ban on the platform, a move he called a “morally bad decision.”
