Elon Musk’s online reputation has suffered greatly due to his unexpected refusal to accept bitcoins for Tesla electric vehicles.
A news report on Yahoo Finance, which cites data from social media monitoring company Awario, said negative tweets about the billionaire are currently outperforming positive ones (19.2% versus 14.9%).
Bitcoin supporters quickly turned negative about Musk after Tesla suspended Bitcoin payments. Adding fuel to the fire, the scandalous entrepreneur questioned the centralization of the main cryptocurrency and the environmental friendliness of mining.
Back in January, the number of tweets for and against Musk was about the same, but by May, the ratio of positive to negative sentiment fell by about 25% and became the lowest since Awario began tracking Musk’s sentiment (since October 2020).
Back then, neutral tweets about Musk prevailed with 66%, followed by negative tweets at 19.2% and positive tweets at 14.9%.
Tesla CEO’s approval rating would likely have plummeted even further if it weren’t for Dogecoin supporters who follow his every tweet.
