The most powerful rocket ever built is about to attempt its maiden launch.
The vehicle, known as Starship, has been built by American entrepreneur Elon Musk’s company SpaceX.
It stands almost 120 meters tall and is designed to have almost twice the thrust of any rocket in history.
Today’s unmanned missile operation will be launched from Boca Chica, Texas. The goal is to send the upper level of the vehicle eastward to nearly complete a lap of the planet.
Musk, however, appealed to all stakeholders and observers to temper their expectations. It is not unusual for a rocket to experience some sort of failure on its initial launch.
“It’s the first launch of a very complex, giant rocket, so it might not launch. We will be very careful and if we see anything that causes us concern, we will postpone the launch,” he wrote on Twitter.

“If we do launch, I would consider anything that doesn’t result in the destruction of the launch pad itself a win.”
