ELSTAT: 205.9% jump in the turnover of the accommodation sector in February

The Hellenic Statistical Authority presents the mapping of the evolution of the turnover of the companies that are active in the sectors of Accommodation and Catering Services.

In particular, for companies in the Accommodation sector, with the obligation to keep bibliographic books, for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in February 2022 amounted to 69,389,636 euros, an increase of 205.9% compared to February 2021, where it had amounted to 22,680,193 euros.

For companies in the Catering Services sector, with the obligation to keep bibliographic books, for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in February 2022 amounted to 112,442,906 euros, recording an increase of 104.4% compared to February 2021 , where it had amounted to 55,016,715 euros.

For companies in the Accommodation and Catering Services sector, with the obligation to keep bibliographic books, for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in February 2022 amounted to 181,832,542 euros, an increase of 134.0% compared to in February 2021, where it had risen to 77,696,908 euros.

For the companies of the Regional Units with a contribution to the total turnover of 2021 greater than 1.0%, the largest increase in the turnover in February 2022 compared to February 2021 was observed in the Regional Unit of Rhodes (584.4%) and the smallest increase (59.2%) was recorded in the Regional Unit of Kos.

These sectors are always in the center of interest due to the importance they have in shaping the performance of the Greek economy as a whole, but also their extensive dispersion, with a significant presence in all regional units and significant contribution to the respective local economies of Greece often associated with the tourist product of Chora.

At the same time, during the recent situation, the monitoring and discreet publication of the evolution of the sizes of these sectors becomes imperative, given the effects, direct and indirect, that they suffered due to the pandemic of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

A corresponding publication has been planned and carried out by ELSTAT on a monthly basis, throughout the period when it is of interest to more regularly monitor the development of the turnover of companies in the accommodation and catering sectors.

In particular, the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) announces data on a monthly basis and in an analysis of the Regional Unit of Greece, for the turnover of companies classified in the Accommodation and Catering Services for the period 2019-2022.

The published data can show, in a detailed local level, the current performance development, in terms of turnover, of the companies operating in key sectors of the tourism sector and in this way provide immediately useful information about the development. of the tourist product of Greece.

It is noted that, from this publication, an updated framework is used to identify the companies classified in the Accommodation and Catering Services sectors, which results from the connection at the level of micro-data administrative files of transactions, reference years 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 and the final Statistics. Business Register, reference year 2019, which provides a standard set of data, harmonized with European classification standards.
