A significant increase of 238.8% was recorded in the turnover of businesses active in the accommodation sector in the second quarter, and amounted to 2,051,499,115 euros.
It is characteristic that the largest increase among the businesses of the Regional Units was observed in the Regional Unit of Kos (399.6%) and the smallest increase (125.8%) was recorded in the Regional Unit of Halkidiki.
According to the data of ELSTAT, for all businesses in the Catering Services sector, the turnover in the second quarter of 2022 amounted to 1,931,545,816 euros, marking an increase of 70.2% compared to the second quarter of 2021, where it had risen to 1,134 .960,057 euros.
For businesses of the Regional Units with a contribution to the total turnover of the year 2021 greater than 1.0%, the largest increase in turnover in the second quarter of 2022 compared to the second quarter of 2021 was observed in the Regional Unit of Thira (275.8%) and the smallest increase (32.3%) was recorded in the Regional Unit of Achaia.
For businesses in the Accommodations sector, with the obligation to keep duplicate books, for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in June 2022 amounted to 1,007,709,216 euros, marking an increase of 174.4% compared to June 2021, where it had risen to 367,247,183 euros.
For businesses in the Catering Services sector, with an obligation to keep duplicate books, for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in June 2022 amounted to 221,518,425 euros, marking an increase of 56.0% compared to June 2021 , where it had risen to 141,979,349 euros.
For businesses in the sectors of Accommodation and Catering Services, with an obligation to keep double-entry books, for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in June 2022 amounted to 1,229,227,641 euros, marking an increase of 141.4% in relation to in June 2021, where it had risen to 509,226,532 euros.
For the enterprises of the Regional Units with a contribution to the total turnover of the year 2021 greater than 1.0%, the largest increase in turnover in June 2022 compared to June 2021 was observed in the Regional Unit Kos (325.5%) and the smallest an increase (58.0%) was recorded in the Regional Unit of Achaia.
These sectors have always been at the center of interest due to the weight they have in shaping the performance of the Greek economy as a whole, but also their extensive dispersion, with a significant presence in all regional units and a significant contribution to the respective local economies of Greece, often associated with the tourism product of the Country.
At the same time, during the recent juncture, the monitoring and discrete publication of the evolution of the sizes of these branches becomes imperative, given the effects, direct and indirect, that they suffered due to the pandemic of the corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

In particular, ELSTAT announces data at a monthly level and in a Regional Unit analysis of Greece, for the turnover of businesses classified in the sectors of Accommodation and Catering Services (sectors 55 and 56 of the NACE Rev. 2 classification) for the period 2019- 2022.
The data published can show, at an analytical local level, the current evolution of the performance, in terms of turnover, of the companies active in key sectors of the tourism sector and in this way provide immediately useful information about the evolution of the tourism product of Greece.
