New business registrations (business start-ups) for all sectors of the economy rose to 22,642 in the third quarter of 2021, showing an increase of 9.2% compared to the third quarter of 2020 which had reached 20,725, as announced today by Greek Statistical Office.
Compared to the second quarter of 2021, which had reached 26,370, the registrations showed a decrease of 14.1%.
For the sectors of economic activity with the largest contribution to the total turnover, according to the data of the Statistical Business Register for the reference year 2018, the greater increase In the number of new business registrations, the third quarter of 2021 in relation to the third quarter of 2020, was recorded in the section “Financial and Insurance Activities” (34.0%) and in the section “Transport and Storage” (12.4%) , while the corresponding greater reduction was recorded in the section “Processing” (22.1%) and in the section “Activities of Accommodation Services and Catering Services” (15.6%).
At the same time, corporate bankruptcies for all sectors of the economy for the third quarter of 2021 were 1 compared to 6 for the third quarter of 2020.

The sectors of economic activity, in which the largest number of new business registrations were recorded, per Large Geographical Area of ​​Greece, are:
• Northern Greece: “Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries” (1), with 2,280 registrations in a total of 6,406.
• Central Greece: “Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries” (1), with 2,031 registrations in a total of 5,510.
• Attica: “Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities”, with 1,497 registrations in a total of 7,642.
• Aegean Islands – Crete: “Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries” (1), with 1,408 registrations in total 3,084.
By category of Legal Form
The sectors of economic activity, in which the largest number of new business registrations were recorded, by category of Legal Form of enterprise, are:
• Sole Proprietorships: “Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries” (1), with 5,915 registrations out of a total of 16,541.
• Private Enterprises: “Wholesale and Retail Trade, Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles”, with 507 registrations in total 2,002.
• Capital Enterprises: “Real Estate Management”, with 91 registrations in a total of 350.
