ELSTAT: At €15.41 billion, turnover in retail trade in the second quarter, increased by 12%

In the second quarter of 2022, the turnover of all businesses in the retail sector amounted to 15.41 billion euros, marking an increase of 12.0% compared to the second quarter of 2021, where it had been formed at 13.76 billion euros and an increase of 20.1% compared to the first quarter of 2022, which was 12.83 billion euros, as ELSTAT announced today.

As announced by ELSTAT, the activities that showed the largest increase in turnover in the second quarter of 2022 compared to the corresponding quarter of 2021 are:

• Retail trade of cosmetics and beauty products in specialized stores, an increase of 44.7%.

• Retail trade of watches and jewelry in specialized stores, an increase of 42.3%.

The activities that showed the largest decrease in turnover in the second quarter of 2022 compared to the corresponding quarter of 2021 are:

• Sale of other motor vehicles, down 12.6%.

• Retail trade of medical and orthopedic goods in specialized stores, a decrease of 7.0%.

The Regions that showed the largest increase in turnover in the second quarter of 2022 compared to the corresponding quarter of 2021 are:
• South Aegean Region, 58.7% increase.
• Region of the Ionian Islands, an increase of 39.8%.

Businesses with an obligation to keep duplicate books

For businesses in the retail trade sector with an obligation to keep double-entry books, for which data are available on a monthly basis, turnover in June 2022 amounted to €3.26 billion, an increase of 10.8% compared to June 2021 which had been formed at 2.94 billion euros and an increase of 4.8% compared to May 2022 which had been formed at 3.11 billion euros.

The activities that showed the largest increase in turnover in June 2022 compared to June 2021 are:

• Retail trade of cosmetics and beauty products in specialized stores, an increase of 47.6%.

• Retail trade of newspapers and stationery in specialized stores, an increase of 40.2%.

The activities that showed the largest decrease in turnover in June 2022 compared to June 2021 are:

• Sale of other motor vehicles, down 19.3%

• Retail trade of computers, computer peripherals and software in specialized stores, down 3.2%

The Regions that showed the greatest increase in turnover in June 2022 compared to June 2021 are:
• South Aegean Region, 49.0% increase.
• Region of the Ionian Islands, an increase of 32.2%.

For businesses in the retail trade sector, with the exception of vehicles, food and fuelturnover in the second quarter of 2022 amounted to 5.53 billion euros, an increase of 9.1% compared to the second quarter of 2021, where it was 5.07 billion euros, and an increase of 26.4% compared to in the first quarter of 2022 which had been set at 4.38 billion euros.

The Regions that showed the largest increase in turnover in the second quarter of 2022 compared to the corresponding quarter of 2021 are:

• South Aegean Region, 62.9% increase.

• Region of the Ionian Islands, an increase of 34.3%.

For businesses in the retail trade sector, with the exception of vehicles, food and fuel, with an obligation to keep double-entry books, for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in June 2022 amounted to 0.89 billion euros, marking an increase of 8.7% compared to June 2021 which had been formed at 0.82 billion euros and an increase of 6.7% compared to May 2022 which had been formed at 0.83 billion euros.

The Regions that showed the greatest increase in turnover in June 2022 compared to June 2021 are:

• South Aegean Region, 59.2% increase.

• Region of Western Macedonia, an increase of 23.9%.
