ELSTAT: The number of visitors to museums increased by 86% in 2021

The number of visitors to museums increased by 86% in 2021 and by 98.7% in archeological sites for the same period, according to ELSTAT data.

Specifically:

• During the month of December 2021 the Museums operated normally, in contrast to the corresponding month of 2020, during which they did not operate, given the implementation of the measures taken to address the pandemic of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), from 1 November 2020 to 13 May 2021, they gradually suspended their operation.

• During the month of December 2021 the Archaeological sites operated normally, in contrast to the corresponding month of 2020, during which they did not operate, given the implementation of the measures taken to address the pandemic of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the operation of the Archaeological Sites was suspended from 7 November 2020 until 21 March 2021.

• During the twelve months of January – December 2021 there is an increase compared to the corresponding period of the year 2020 by 86.0% to the visitors of the Museums, by 52.9% to the visitors of free entrance, while an increase of 156.6% is observed in the respective receipts , given the suspension of the Museums from 14 March 2020 to 16 June 2020 and gradually from 1 November 2020 to 13 May 2021, in implementation of the measures taken to address the pandemic of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) .

• At the Archaeological sites, during the twelve months of January – December 2021, there is an increase compared to the corresponding period of the year 2020 by 98.7% in visitors, by 49.6% in free admission visitors and by 158.9% in the respective receipts , given the suspension of the operation of the Archaeological sites from March 14 to May 17, 2020 and again from November 7, 2020 to March 21, 2021 in application of the measures taken to address the pandemic of coronavirus disease
