ELSTAT: Turnover in the accommodation sector increased by 166.9% in November

The Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) presents the mapping of the evolution of the turnover of companies operating in the sectors of Accommodation and Catering Services.

In particular, for companies in the accommodation sector with the obligation to keep bibliographic books, for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in November 2021 amounted to 118,795,969 euros, an increase of 166.9% compared to November 2020, where it had risen to 40,515,640 euros.

For the companies of the Regional Units with a contribution to the total turnover of 2020 greater than 1.0%, the largest increase in the turnover in November 2021 compared to November 2020 was observed in the Regional Unit of Mykonos (468.7%) and the smallest increase (49.7%) was recorded in the Regional Unit of Kos.

For companies in the catering industry with the obligation to keep bibliographic books, for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in November 2021 amounted to 115,707,850 euros, recording an increase of 95.7% compared to November 2020, where had amounted to 59,128,712 euros.

For the companies of the Regional Units with a contribution to the total turnover of 2020 greater than 1.0%, the largest increase in the turnover in November 2021 compared to November 2020 was observed in the Regional Unit of Ioannina (603.2%) and the smallest An increase (29.3%) was recorded in the Regional Unit of Halkidiki, while a decrease (12.8%) was recorded in the Regional Unit of Evia.

It is noted that these sectors are always in the center of interest due to the importance they have in shaping the performance of the Greek economy as a whole, but also their extensive dispersion, with a significant presence in all regional units and significant contribution to the respective local economies in Greece. related to the tourist product of Chora.

At the same time, during the recent situation, the monitoring and discreet publication of the evolution of the sizes of these sectors becomes imperative, given the effects, direct and indirect, that they suffered due to the pandemic of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

A corresponding publication has been planned and carried out by ELSTAT on a monthly basis, throughout the period when it is of interest to more regularly monitor the development of the turnover of companies in the accommodation and catering sectors.

In particular, the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) announces data on a monthly basis and in an analysis of the Regional Unit of Greece, for the turnover of companies classified in the categories of Accommodation and Catering Services (sections 55 and 56 of the NACE Rev.2 classification) for the period 2019-2021.

The published data can show, in a detailed local level, the current performance development, in terms of turnover, of the companies operating in key sectors of the tourism sector and thus provide immediately useful information about the development. of the tourist product of Greece.
