ELSTAT: Turnover of retail companies increased by 14.6% in the first quarter

The turnover of retail companies increased in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the corresponding quarter of 2021, while it declined from the previous quarter, according to data released today by the Hellenic Statistical Authority.

In particular, in all enterprises of the retail sector, the turnover in the first quarter of 2022 amounted to 12.8 billion euros, recording an increase of 14.6% compared to the first quarter of 2021, where it had reached 11.2 billion. euros and a decrease of 16.7% compared to the fourth quarter of 2021 which had reached 15.4 billion euros.

The activities that showed the largest increase in turnover in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the corresponding quarter of 2021 are:
• Retail sale of second-hand items in stores, increase of 66.1%.
• Retail sale of footwear and leather goods in specialized stores, an increase of 55.1%.

The activities that showed the largest decrease in turnover in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the corresponding quarter of 2021 are:
• Retail sale of textiles, clothing and footwear in outdoor stalls and markets, a decrease of 13.7%.
• Retail sale of fish, crustaceans and molluscs in specialized stores, a decrease of 7.3%.

The Regions that showed the largest increase in turnover in the first quarter 2022 compared to the corresponding quarter 2021 are:
• Region of Central Greece, increase of 18.1%.
• South Aegean Region, increase of 18.1%.

Companies in the retail trade sector with the obligation to keep diplographic books

For companies in the retail sector with the obligation to keep bibliographic books, for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in March 2022 amounted to 2.8 billion euros, an increase of 19.8% compared to March 2021 which was set at 2.3 billion euros and an increase of 10.0% compared to February 2022 which was set at 2.5 billion euros.
The activities that showed the largest increase in turnover in March 2022 compared to March 2021 are:
• Retail sale of music and video recordings in specialized stores, an increase of 290.0%.
• Retail sale of carpets, rugs and floor and wall coverings in specialized stores, an increase of 159.1%.

The Regions that showed the largest increase in turnover in March 2022 compared to March 2021 are:
• South Aegean Region, increase of 32.5%.
• Region of Thessaly, increase of 22.6%.

Retail business activities, excluding vehicles, foodstuffs and fuels

For businesses in the retail sector, excluding vehicles, food and fuel, turnover in the first quarter of 2022 amounted to 4.38 billion euros, an increase of 15.2% compared to the first quarter of 2021, where was set at 3.8 billion euros and a decrease of 27.6% compared to the fourth quarter of 2021 which was set at 6.1 billion euros.

The Regions that showed the largest increase in turnover in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the corresponding quarter 2021 are:
• Attica Region, increase of 18.3%.
• South Aegean Region, increase of 17.8%.

For retail companies, excluding vehicles, food and fuel, with the obligation to keep bibliographic books, for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in March 2022 amounted to 0.65 billion euros, recording an increase of 45.0% compared to March 2021 which was set at 0.45 billion euros and an increase of 2.9% compared to February 2022 which was set at 0.63 billion euros.

The Regions that showed the largest increase in turnover in March 2022 compared to March 2021 are:
• South Aegean Region, increase of 67.5%.
• Attica Region, increase of 49.2%
