ELSTAT: Turnover of the activities of the economy increased by 21.1% in 2021

The Hellenic Statistical Authority announces the data concerning the evolution of the turnover for the companies that were suspended due to a state order in March 2020, due to the pandemic of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). ELSTAT:

For all enterprises and activities of the economy, the turnover in the year 2021 amounted to 332,434,338 thousand euros, recording an increase of 21.1% compared to the year 2020, which had amounted to 274,437,995 thousand euros.

The largest increase in turnover by 59.8%, between the years 2021 and 2020 was presented by the companies in the sector Accommodation Services and Catering Services, while the smallest increase in turnover by 2.7% was presented by the companies in the Real Estate Management sector Property.

For all businesses and activities of the economy, the turnover in the fourth quarter of 2021 amounted to 99,030,603 thousand euros, recording an increase of 32.7% compared to the fourth quarter of 2020, which had reached 74,653,883 thousand. euro.

The largest increase in turnover in the fourth quarter 2021 compared to the fourth quarter of 2020 was presented by companies in the Arts, Entertainment and Entertainment sector by 88.6%, while the smallest increase in turnover in the fourth quarter 2021 compared to the fourth quarter 2020 presented the companies of the sector Mines and Quarries, by 0.1%.

For all businesses in the economy with the obligation to keep bibliographic books, for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in December 2021 amounted to 30,335,748 thousand euros, an increase of 33.5% compared to December 2020 , which had amounted to 22,720,856 thousand euros.

The largest increase in turnover in December 2021 compared to December 2020 was presented by companies in the Arts, Entertainment and Entertainment sector by 342.5%.

The smallest increase in turnover in December 2021 compared to December 2020 was presented by the companies in the sector Other Service Activities, by 0.5% while the largest decrease was recorded by the companies in the sector Public Administration and Defense, Compulsory Social Security, by 5 , 6%.

For the 210,217 companies that were put into operation in March 2020, the turnover in the year 2021 amounted to 27,124,667 thousand euros, recording an increase of 33.6% compared to the year 2020, which had reached 20,296,943 thousand. euro.

The largest increase in turnover by 120.3%, between the year 2021 and the year 2020 was presented by the companies of the Accommodation sector, while the smallest increase in the turnover by 4.7% was presented by the companies of the sector Activities of libraries, archives, museums and other cultural activities.

For the 210,217 companies that were suspended in March 2020, the turnover in the fourth quarter of 2021 amounted to 7,541,307 thousand euros, recording an increase of 63.4% compared to the fourth quarter of 2020, which had reached 4,616,362 thousand euros.

The largest increase in turnover in the fourth quarter of 2021 compared to the fourth quarter of 2020 was presented by companies in the production of film, video and television programs, recordings and music publications by 536.7%.

The smallest increase in turnover in the fourth quarter of 2021 compared to the fourth quarter of 2020 was presented by the companies in the sector Sports activities and leisure and entertainment activities, by 2.1%, while the companies in the sector recorded activities of libraries, archives, museums and other cultural activities, by 1.9%.

For the companies that were put into operation in March 2020 with the obligation to keep bibliographic books, for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in December 2021 amounted to 1,706,389 thousand euros, an increase of 119.1% compared to with December 2020, which had reached 778,686 thousand euros.

The largest increase in turnover in December 2021 compared to December 2020 was presented by companies in the Gambling and betting sector by 1,069.5%.

The smallest increase in turnover in December 2021 compared to December 2020 was presented by companies in the Education sector, by 13.3% while the largest decrease was recorded by companies in the Creative activities, arts and entertainment sector, by 35.7%.

The published data can show, on the one hand, which companies are most affected in terms of turnover, during the periods of validity of the restrictive measures, and on the other hand, which companies are recovering faster or slower during the periods of lifting these measures.

In addition, based on the data published, it can be concluded, on the supply side, which of the companies responded – adapted faster to the lifting of restrictive measures and to operate under the new conditions imposed by the pandemic.

At the same time, on the demand side, useful, indirect conclusions can be drawn about businesses, which have been chosen as a matter of priority and, more broadly, consumers (individuals and businesses) during periods of lifting of restrictive measures to meet their basic and other needs. .
