ELTA is close to four new agreements with big international retail names for the delivery of their goods to Greece, in the standards of cooperation with Amazon, utilizing the nationwide coverage of the group but also the new automated parcel sorting services that have recently entered mode.
At the Sorting Center of the Hellenic Post in Kryoneri, the new robotic sorting system of the group is already in operation, with 55 mini robots that can serve 3,000 parcels per hour, while by the end of the year the second phase of the investment will be completed with the addition of another 70 mini robots, which will increase the ability to manage to 7,000 parcels per hour or 165,000 parcels per day.
As stressed by the CEO of ELTA, George Konstantopoulos during the presentation of the new sorting system, this investment, amounting to about 1 million euros, saves about 2 million euros for the group each year. It also makes it possible to deliver parcels not just the next day but even earlier, as the ability to manage the group is more than fivefold.
Amazon and subsequent deals
According to Mr. Konstantopoulos, in addition to better service to citizens and businesses, the new possibilities offered by the robotic sorting system allow ELTA to enter into agreements, such as the one that was concluded at the end of last spring with Amazon for the distribution of items shipped to Greece.
“Without the new robotic system, the agreement with Amazon would not be beneficial for us because we would be required to pay in terms of delivery delays more than the income we would have,” said the head of ELTA.
He even revealed that ELTA is close to signing similar agreements with other major international trade chains. According to information, the group is in negotiations with four multinational companies in the field of clothing and footwear for the delivery of their products to Greek consumers.

Digital Postman and Smart Lockers
However, apart from the sorting, the digital transformation program of ELTA includes other services related to the distribution and support of the “last mile”.
The first new service will be the Digital Postman. “Postmen and distributors will be equipped with PDA devices with integrated POS payment function (tap & pay), which will communicate with the customer’s mobile application for contactless shipments. In this way, in addition to mail management, they will be able to receive, pay, or compare any order, account, or service, “said Mr. Konstantopoulos.
For customers, the same mobile application will offer real-time information for every transaction, with a smart scanning system and image recognition to make all possible transactions. For the receipts, it will be combined with an audible or pop-up notification for changes in the route, in order to achieve the optimal monitoring, while it will show in real time the position of the distributor.
The second service that will be presented in the next period, concerns the special cases of automatic receipt (Smart Lockers) that will be installed in the branches of ELTA. The ELTA customer will be able to deliver and receive his correspondence or parcel 24 hours a day from the lockers which will be opened with a special code. According to information, the first cabinets will be installed on a trial basis in selected stores in the coming months.
