The singers Elton John, 78, and Brandi Carlile, 43, released on Thursday the album “Who Believes in Angels?”, That they took only twenty days to compose, record and produce. The two played along with Bernie Taupin, British’s longtime composer and partner, and Andrew Watt, producer of names like Ozzy Osbourne, Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber.
The album has ten songs in which Elton John and Brandi sometimes sing separately, sometimes come together in duets. The band that accompanies the musicians will be attended by Chad Smith, drummer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Josh Klinghoffer, a former Californian guitarist.
“Who Believes in Angels?” It was preceded by the release of two singles: “Who Believes in Angels?” and “Swing for the Fences”. In addition to these songs, the album has “Never Too Late”, the theme song of the documentary “Elton John: Never Too Late” nominated for the Oscar for best original song at this year’s ceremony.
In the press release at the album’s release, Elton John said “Who Believes in Angels?” It opens a new era in your career and will serve as a starting point for what will come ahead.
“This album was one of the hardest I’ve ever done, but it was also one of the greatest musical experiences of my life,” said the artist. “I have everything I did behind myself, and it’s been bright, amazing. But this is the new beginning to me.”
This is the first album Elton John releases after retiring from the stage. His last presentation took place in July 2023 in Sweden. The Briton promised, however, to follow active in his musical career, even though he does not do more shows.
Brandi Carlile, in turn, celebrated the challenge of standing an album in just 20 days and praised her collaborative process, Elton John, Watt and Taupin.
“It was an incredibly challenging and inspiring environment to work, everyone giving ideas, everyone listening to everyone’s ideas. It seemed like a family. The world is a wild place to live now. It’s hard to find peace and triumph. It’s a radical act to look for cheerful and euphoric events. And that’s what this album represents for me,” he said.
“Never Too Late” is a tribute to Bernie Taupin
Elton John explained that the song “Never Too Late” is a celebration of his longtime partnership with Bernie Taupin, with whom decades of iconic compositions.
In an interview with the CBS News, he said: “It’s a song about both Bernie and about me. It’s about both of us and how wonderful our friendship, our love and our partnership in the composition, everything we did and got together,” said the artist.
“I can’t imagine my life without him. When you come to a certain age … I’m not sentimental, but suddenly you start thinking, ‘I want my boys to be part of my life forever, I want David to be with me. I want my friends. I don’t want to die.”
