Daughter of Elvis Presley and Priscilla, Lisa Marie disapproved of the self-titled biopic named after her mother, which will be released on December 26 this year. This is because the singer and ex-wife of Michael Jackson did not like the way her father would be portrayed in the film and asked the director, Sofia Coppola, to spare her family from “public embarrassment”, according to her.
The information is from the American magazine variety, who had access to two emails from Lisa Marie that were sent to Sofia Coppola, four months before the death of Elvis’ daughter in January of this year, at the age of 54. The director intends to tell the story of the relationship between Priscilla and the singer in 1959, when he was 24 years old and she was just 14.
“My father only appears as a predator and manipulator. As his daughter, when I read this, I see nothing of my father in this character. I don’t see my mother’s perspective on my father. I read and see your shockingly vindictive and dismissive perspective and I don’t understand why,” Lisa said in one of the emails.
In the second email, the singer states that she would publicly speak out against the production if no changes were made. “I will be forced to be in a position where I will have to openly say how I feel about the film and go against you, my mother and this film publicly,” she details. This is because Priscilla is one of the film’s producers.
“I hope that when you watch the final film, you feel differently, and understand that I am taking great care in honoring your mother, while at the same time presenting your father with sensitivity and complexity,” Sofia responded to one of the emails sent by Lisa Marie Presley. Elvis’ daughter, however, approved the biopic of the King of Rock directed by Baz Luhrmann.
