EMA for AstraZeneca vaccine: We asked experts to do research, their conclusion on Thursday

A press conference is currently being given by European Medicines Agency (Coreper), which conducts research on the safety of the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine after the decision of European countries to suspend vaccinations due to concerns about possible side effects, such as cases of bleeding, clots and low platelet count.

According to Coreper, an investigation is underway into possible side effects from vaccine. At the same time, in the press conference it was mentioned that experts have been asked to investigate if there is a connection between the vaccine and the blood clots.

Experts will reach a conclusion on Thursday. The public will be informed immediately after Thursday’s meeting.

However, it was clarified that there is no indication that the vaccine caused thrombosis and that the number of such cases is not higher than that recorded in the population.

As the investigation continues, Coreper remains confident of the benefits of the vaccine and stresses that they outweigh the risks. Cases of blood clots are “extremely rare” and should be evaluated.

The head of the European Medicines Agency, Emer Cook, also noted that the service investigates the incidents one by one and a complete installation is expected on Thursday.
