Days October 28th and 29th, from 11am to 6pm, the Ema Klabin House Museum hosts the fourth edition of LABAS – Lithuania Festival, offering a true cultural and gastronomic journey through this country, located on the edge of the Baltic Sea, between Latvia, Poland and Belarus and which, since 2004, has been part of the European Union.
Among the attractions of the Lithuanian Festival, the public will be able to see typical dance, music, exhibitions and workshops, in addition to purchasing a series of artistic, handcrafted and decorative products, in techniques such as sculpture, marquetry, hand-painted pieces, eggs decorated, among others.
Lithuanian gastronomy
In gastronomy, visitors will have the opportunity to delve into Lithuania’s culinary traditions, learning from chef Claudio Kupstas how to prepare and taste the famous pink cold soup, Šaltibarščiai, a hit in the country’s gastronomy. In addition to trying typical dishes such as Virtiniai (handmade pasta with meat or cheese filling and white sauce), Kugelis (grated potato pie with bacon), Agurkai (pickled cucumber) or Kopūstai su dešrelėmis (cabbage cooked with sausage) .
It will also be possible to take home delicacies such as Šakotis (considered the king of sweets and very popular in Lithuania, with a mild vanilla flavor), Krupnikas (artisan liqueur made from honey), preserves, bread and artisan cookies. In addition to being a very popular drink in Lithuania that has the same level of consumption as soft drinks. Gira (pronounced guirá) is a traditional village drink, very common in the Baltic countries, whose base can be typical rye bread and adjuncts such as malt and cereals.
Workshops and artistic installation
Two workshops will be held, one that will teach the first steps in weaving typical Lithuanian sashes (Juostos), widely used at parties and special occasions. And also the Snaigés workshop, snowflake-shaped cutouts used to decorate Christmas trees, windows and pictures.
Children will have a special space to learn, in a playful way, a little about the Lithuanian culture and language, one of the oldest in the world.
Brazilian photographer and artist of Lithuanian descent, Helena Kavaliunas, will present the installation “Affectionate Looks at São Paulo & Vilnius”.
Presentation of kanklès: folk instrument
During the festival, the public will be able to learn more about the kanklės, a traditional folk stringed musical instrument, considered “the soul of Lithuanian music” and watch a performance of the instrument with musician Aistė Bružaitė, head and professor of the Department of Folk Instruments from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater (LMTA), an internationally recognized higher education institution located in Vilnius, Lithuania.
THE TWINS
For the first time, the festival will feature the participation of the duo of graffiti artists Otávio and Gustavo Pandolfo, internationally recognized as THE TWINS . The artists, of Lithuanian origin, sign the art made especially for the festival, which can be purchased on site.
The festival will also feature a conversation with testimonials from great Brazilian personalities of Lithuanian origin. The first edition will feature the participation of OSGEMEOS.
Tourism in Lithuania
The Festival will feature a talk on Lithuanian tourism with the Honorary Consul of Lithuania in Guarujá, Carlos Levenstein; a talk with historian Marcos Lipas about the 700th anniversary of Vilnius and its importance in the world throughout time; lecture by representatives of the Lithuanian state agency with information for young people who want to live or study in the country; lecture on entrepreneurship, highlighting Lithuanian companies in Brazil and the country’s global leadership in laser technologies, which today provides solutions for companies such as NASA and IBM.
