Embraer has completed tests to evaluate autonomous flight systems under real conditions within urban environments, the company announced this Friday (6th).
The experimental flights of the Embraer Autonomous Systems Project (Project EASy) were carried out with a helicopter in Rio de Janeiro and collected data that will boost aviation in the future in which machines and algorithms take control of vehicle driving .
Embraer’s experiments lasted seven days and explored common and extreme scenarios for takeoff, climb, cruise flight, approach and landing of the aircraft.
Pilots steered the helicopter while the systems captured data and performed calculations in real time.
The data will guide the construction of Embraer’s eVTOLs (electric vertical take-off and landing vehicles).
“This project allowed us to evaluate technologies in real time and also collect information that will later be used in simulations,” said Julio Bolzani, head of autonomous systems at Embraer, in a press release.
The tests were carried out together with Eve, a group company dedicated to accelerating urban air mobility solutions.
“All the information and data gathered in this project, as well as the technical solutions under development, will point the way to the fully autonomous flight of eVTOLs in the future,” said Andre Stein, co-CEO of Eve.
