Embraer suspends maintenance and parts sales to Russia

Embraer announced this Wednesday (2) that, in view of the sanctions applied to Russia, it suspended maintenance services and the sale of parts to Russian customers. The measure follows the same decision by competitors Airbus and Boeing.

In Russia, S7, the country’s second largest airline, uses Embraer 170 models on regional routes.

“Embraer is closely monitoring the evolution of the action and has been complying, and will continue to comply, with the international sanctions imposed on Russia and certain regions of Ukraine”, quotes a statement sent to the CNN Brasil Business.

With the decision, according to the Brazilian company, “parts, maintenance and technical support services for customers affected by the sanctions” are suspended.

Russia’s second-largest airline, S7, has 17 Embraer 170 models in its fleet, according to the website Plane Spotters, which monitors the airline fleet. The model is used on regional routes and has a capacity of 78 passengers.

Of the Brazilian aircraft in the airline’s fleet, 15 are in service and two are not in use. Brazilian models represent 16% of the company’s fleet, which has 105 planes. All other models in the S7 fleet are from Airbus or Boeing – manufacturers that have also suspended maintenance and parts sales to the Russians.

Among the other large companies, Aeroflot, the largest Russian airline, has 94% of the fleet in Airbus or Boeing models. The third, Pobeda, has 100% of its fleet in Boeing models.
