Emily Ratajkowski explodes against ‘Blonde’; she says she “fetishizes female pain”

Premiered by Netflix last week, the long-awaited film Blonde comprises a biopic fictional, based on the work by author Joyce Carol Oates, about the life of Marilyn Monroe, the talented actress and singer who became a symbol of Hollywood.

Though Blonde broke popularity records, the movie starring Ana de Armas has caused controversy not only among the audience, who considers it a lack of respect for Marilyn’s legacy, but also among critics.

In this regard, the magazine Goesvariety described the production with the adjectives “cruel” and “sexist”, while the main film critic of The New York Times, Manohla Dargis, the qualified from “vulgar”:

Considering all the humiliations and horrors Marilyn Monroe had to endure in 36 years, it’s a relief that she didn’t have to suffer through watching the vulgarities of ‘Blonde’, the newest necrophiliac entertainment to use her.

However, Manohla Dargis was not the only person to publicly express her discontent. Emily Ratajkowski also gave her opinion about the famous film about the life of Marilyn Monroe.

The 31-year-old American model regularly speaks on social media about issues that directly concern women, raising important feminist issues. A few days ago, through TikTok, the also businesswoman shared her position on the alleged infidelities of Adam Levine to his wife, the model Behati Prinsloo.

Regarding her most recent position, Emily took to the platform to express her discomfort about Blondenoting that he hasn’t seen it, but isn’t surprised to hear that it’s another film that “fetishizes female pain.”

We love to fetishize female pain. Look at Amy Winehouse. Look at Britney Spears. Look how obsessed we are with the death of [la princesa] Diana. We’re obsessed with dead girls and serial killers. Watch any episode of ‘CSI’ and you’ll see this crazy fetishization of female pain and death.

Later, Emily added:

I think as a woman I have learned to fetishize my own pain and grief. I feel like I can make that my identity. It’s kind of sexy to be able to say, ‘Oh, I’m a crazy girl,’ and I think we do it in many, many different ways. But I want that to change.

Yes Blonde has generated so much debate since the announcement of its production, it is, in particular, because of its sex scenes and the graphic treatment of the sequences of sexual violence. In fact, the film directed by Andrew Dominik was listed as prohibited for children under 18 years of age by Netflix against the will of the filmmaker, who refused to modify it.

On the other hand, Dominik has made it clear that he doesn’t care if the public doesn’t like it. Blonde:

It is a demanding film. If the audience doesn’t like it, that’s the audience’s damn problem. It is not running for public office.
