I knew he had incredible talent, we needed each other, and I was willing to risk my career to work with him. Eminem wasn’t just some underdog who broke hip-hop’s glass ceiling: he shattered that shit. Little did I know that he was going to be one of the best selling artists of all time.

From the moment he introduced himself to the world with ‘The Slim Shady LP’, he shot to the top of the charts and stayed there for 100 weeks, earning a Grammy for Best Rap Album and Best Rap Solo Performance.

But that was not all, because he also thanked dozens of other rappers, whom he described as his “parents” in the rap and without them, he certainly would not have succeeded in his career.

They say it takes a village to raise a child. Well, it took a whole genre of music and its culture to raise me. It was ‘hip-hop’ and those people were my teachers. […] It’s your night as much as mine.

However, what caught the most attention in his emotional speech was the part in which he revealed that he might not be at that time because years ago he almost died of an overdose.

I’m a rapper and this is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And there are only a few of us right now that have been boosted, but there are only a few of us. Second, I almost died of an overdose in 2007, which was sh*t.

Because drugs were fucking delicious. I thought things were going well between us, but I had to go and screw everything up.

Eminem, who was once addicted to Vicodin, Valium, Ambien and methadone, celebrated ten years of sobriety in 2018.
