The international banks operating in the United Arab Emirates will adopt the working week from Monday to Friday in the country from January, aligning their regional activities with the global standard.
According to Bloomberg, JPMorgan, Deutsche Bank, Bank of America and Societe Generale will make this change, following the decision of the Gulf state to change its working week.
Schools and the public sector in the UAE will go on a 4.5-day week from the new year, with half a day on Friday – a holy day in Islam. While this will align the UAE with the world economies, the same is not true for the rest of the Gulf Arab states, which have a working week from Sunday to Thursday.
Dubai is the region’s main business and financial hub, although most international banks are staffed in Saudi Arabia to cover Sundays.
