This year’s North American television audience for the star-studded annual awards ceremony Emmy fell about 24% to 5.9 million people compared to 2021, broadcaster NBC said on Tuesday, marking an all-time low, according to industry publication Variety.
NBC combined the viewership of its Peacock streaming service and its network TV broadcast to calculate total views.
The audience for all the famous award ceremonies has been dropping in recent years. The most recent high of the awards broadcast was in 2013, when around 17.7 million people watched the Emmy ceremony.
The Emmy, television’s biggest awards, was handed out on a Monday this year, rather than the typical Sunday, to avoid conflicts with NFL programming on NBC.
The awards saw several repeat winners from last year, including “Succession” for best drama and “Ted Lasso” for best comedy.
