The night of the Emmy 2024 which took place this Sunday (15), was marked by tributes to the main television archetypes (such as parents, police officers, lawyers and doctors), running speeches and a dynamic ceremony. And, of course, some surprises.
There was great expectation that “Shogun “, “Baby Reindeer ” and “The Bear ” would stand out at television’s biggest awards show. Although they lived up to expectations, the half-hour production set in a chaotic kitchen didn’t come away from the ceremony with as many trophies as expected. - “Hacks” wins Best Comedy
The last award of the night held the biggest surprise for those who were still awake following the ceremony. Catherine O’Hara (“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice“) opened the envelope and, with a big smile, announced that the “Hacks “, the comedy about two comedians had beaten the series about the cook who had already won 11 other victories in the edition.
In addition to the award for comedy, another surprise was the victory of “Hacks” for writing – which competed against the acclaimed episode “Fishes”, from “The Bear”.
- “Shogun” loses in supporting actor and screenplay
Holding the record for most wins in a single edition, everything indicated that the Japanese feudal period drama would win all the categories in which it was nominated. However, the series Disney+ lost two awards that seemed to be guaranteed: best supporting actor for Tadanobu Asano (“Thor: Ragnarok”) and best screenplay. Asano lost to Billy Crudup from “The Morning Show“, and the The winning script was “Slow Horses” – two wins for Apple TV+.
- Lamorne Morris wins supporting actor in a limited series
In one of the most open categories of the night, Lamorne Morris gave “underdog” and won the fifth season of “Fargo”. According to experts, the possible candidates could be John Hawkes for “True Detective”, Tom Goodman-Hill from “Baby Reindeer”, Jonathan Bailey of “Fellow Travelers” or Robert Downey Jr. by “The Sympathizer.” Everyone except Morris, who looked genuinely surprised.

Television’s most famous drag queen watched the Emmys without standing up. After eight consecutive years of winning the award for best reality show host, RuPaul lost to Alan Cumming who won for his work on “The Traitors “. “RuPaul’s Drag Race ” also failed to win in the reality show category, losing to “The Traitors,” the television version of the “city sleeps” game show.
