The documentary “Draw “, directed by Sergio de Carvalho (“Alien Nights”), has just received its trailer and official release date. The production documents the activist’s life and struggles Chico Mendes .
The production portrays the rubber tapper movement in Acre in the 1970s and 1980s and began with a meeting between director Sérgio de Carvalho and Elenira Mendes daughter of Chico Mendes, the trade unionist and activist. In 1988, on the twentieth anniversary of her father’s death, Elenira approached Sérgio to start the project.
Filmed in partnership with Chico Mendes Committee the documentary investigates historical issues in Brazil that remain current, reflecting on the way the country deals with extractivism and its consequences, which continue to affect society to this day.
It’s worth remembering that Chico Mendes will also get a biopic. “Empate” hits theaters in December 5th .

Francisco Alves Mendes Filho was a Brazilian rubber tapper, trade unionist and environmental activist, known worldwide for his fight in defense of the Amazon and the rights of the people of the forest. Born in 1944 in Xapuri, in Acre, and son of northeastern migrants, since he was nine years old accompanied his father in extractive activities latex.
According to the federal government, it dedicated his life to preserving the Fforest THEmazônica and improving the living conditions of rubber tappers, being one of the founders of the National Council of Rubber Tappers. Furthermore, it promoted the creation of Rreserves ANDxtractive, protected areas where local communities can live and work sustainably.
Mendes was murdered in 1988. Brazil included him on the List of Heroes of the Brazilian Homelandand he was declared Patron of the Environment Brazilian “in recognition of his fight in defense of life in the forest and the Amazon itself”.
