Employee dies after supermarket fire

A 43-year-old man died in the early hours of Sunday (23) after a fire broke out in the shed of a Mambo supermarket in the west of São Paulo. The victim was an employee of the establishment and worked as an inspector.

According to the São Paulo Public Security Department (SSP), the victim’s body did not show burns, which may indicate that the cause of death was intoxication caused by the smoke. Four other employees were at the scene, but managed to escape and were not injured.

The SSP reports that the Military Police were patrolling the Pinheiros neighborhood when they came across the fire. The agents called the Fire Department, who managed to control the fire around 4:30 am.

Firefighters also reported that the fire caused a mezzanine in the supermarket warehouse to collapse.

THE CNN contacted the Mambo network to comment on the matter, but did not receive a response until the time of publication of this report.
