An employee of the Dr. José Frota Institute (IJF), in Fortaleza, was shot dead this Tuesday morning (23) inside the health unit, administered by the City of Fortaleza. Another professional from the institute was also injured in the action committed by a former employee of the unit.
According to the Fortaleza Municipal Health Department, the attack took place in the hospital's cargo reception area.
In a statement, the Secretariat of Public Security and Social Defense (SSPDS) reported that the fatal victim of the tragedy, who provided services in the unit's food sector, was found at the scene with gunshot marks and signs of serious violence. The employee succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene.
The suspected perpetrator of the crime, already identified by authorities, remains at large. According to the police, the main line of investigation into the motivation for the homicide points to a crime of passion.
On social media, the Governor of Ceará, Elmano de Freitas, spoke out about the crime that occurred in the state capital. According to him, the suspect in the attack is a former employee of the Institute, fired more than a year ago and who, even so, had access to the municipal hospital through facial recognition, according to investigations.
“Our security forces are searching and will very soon arrest the criminal, already identified, who committed a barbaric crime, this morning, on the premises of the IJF, for reasons of passion. A regrettable crime, which will receive a quick response from the police,” said the governor.
The case is still ongoing at the 4th Police Station of the Department of Homicide and Personal Protection (DHPP) of Fortaleza to clarify the facts.
According to the Fortaleza Health Ministry, the families of the victims are being properly welcomed. According to the agency, the situation is being monitored by the security sectors, which are receiving all the necessary support for the investigations.
All patient care at Instituto Dr. José Frota is being carried out normally, without any interruption.
