Employee who signed wrong HIV tests must hand herself in to the Police today

The PCS Lab Saleme employee who signed HIV tests with incorrect results, Jacqueline Iris Bacellar de Assis, must surrender to the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro this Tuesday (15). The information was confirmed to CNN by her lawyer, José Félix.

On the morning of last Monday (14), the main partner of the laboratory, Walter Vieira, and the technician hired to analyze the material, Ivanilson Fernandes, were arrested in an operation launched by the Consumer Police (Decon). Jacqueline and another employee are considered fugitives.

In all, six people were infected with the HIV virus after receiving transplanted organs, due to “false-negative” test results for HIV serology presented by the PCS Lab Saleme laboratory. According to the police, the laboratory’s administrators aimed to make a profit.

It is Jacqueline’s name that appears in the signature of the reports of these incorrect exams, along with the information that she would be a biomedical doctor. However, the registration number used in the electronic signature belongs to someone else.

The holder of the registration with the Regional Biomedicine Council is Júlia Moraes, who no longer practices the profession and has had her registration inactive since June 2023.

In a note sent to CNN the Regional Biomedicine Council of the 1st Region (CRBM1) reported that it is monitoring the case of infection in transplant patients in Rio de Janeiro.

The agency confirms that Jacqueline is not registered and that the number used belongs to professional Júlia Moraes de Oliveira Lima.

Asked about the case, the PCS Lab Saleme Laboratory reported that Jacqueline signed several exams in recent months and that, when hired, she presented a biomedical training diploma. The company even disclosed an alleged exchange of messages with the employee at the time of hiring.

THE CNN Jacqueline’s lawyer, José Félix, said that she was unaware of the conversation presented by the laboratory to the press. “Ms. Jacqueline has a certification degree in the field of pathology. She never took a biology and medicine course. He does not have any diploma in the field and is unaware of any documents”, stated the legal representative.

When consulted, the university states that it did not issue a certificate of completion of an undergraduate course to Jacqueline.

According to the defense, the professional has worked at the PCS Lab laboratory, in Baixada Fluminense, for around a year as an administrative assistant and did not have the power to sign reports and exam results, which, according to the legal representative, were received by her client and forwarded to the laboratory doctor, Walter Vieira, who would be responsible for signing them.
