Employment, income and food insecurity reflect a picture of economic uncertainty

A recent survey by the World Bank, in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), indicated that Latin America and the Caribbean reach the end of 2021 with fewer formal jobs, lower income and greater food insecurity than in the period pre-pandemic. Among the most affected countries are Brazil, Colombia and Ecuador. Despite receiving support from governments with social programs, such as emergency aid, in the case of Brazilians, around 50% of families have not returned to the income levels registered before Covid-19.

In this episode of E Tem Mais, Carol Nogueira presents an overview of how the scenario of economic instability has affected the income, work and health of Brazilians, especially the poorest. To describe the social impacts of the current economic scenario, economists Silvia Okabayashi, a professor at the Methodist University of São Paulo (Umesp), and Marcelo Neri, a researcher at FGV Social, participate in this episode.
