Employment Suspension Act Activated – ‘Collaboration’ Extended

At the meeting held this morning under Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the new initiatives of the government for the protection of jobs were finalized in the context of the new measures taken to contain the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic.

The meeting was held with the participation of the Minister of Finance Christos Staikouras, the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Kostis Hatzidakis, the Ministers of State George Gerapetritis and Akis Skertsos and the Deputy Minister under the Prime Minister and Government Spokesman Giannos.

Analytically:
1.The measure of suspension of employment contracts with special purpose compensation is activated (534 euros) for January 2022 to employees who have been hired until 30/12/2021 by companies with specific business activity codes based on KAD (bars, restaurants with music, entertainment centers, etc.). The suspensions of employment contracts will be announced in advance at PS ERGANI from January 1, 2022 to January 10, 2022 at 23.59.00. It is pointed out that the dismissals are prohibited for the companies that will use the measure and for as long as it lasts.

2. Special purpose compensation is granted for January 2022 after submitting unilateral declarations for artists who have been registered in the Register of Artists until January 10, 2021 with the specialty of musician and related specialties.

3. The “COOPERATION” Program is expanded (which became an important tool to support employment during the pandemic period) until March 31, 2022, for full-time employees on October 31, 2021. The employer can reduce employee time by up to 50% , without changing the employment relationship. For the time the employee is not working, 60% of his salary is covered by the state budget. As long as the employee is part of the “COOPERATION”, he is not allowed to be fired.

4. Where possible by the nature of the work (eg banks, insurance companies), the obligation of companies to put up to 50% of their employees in teleworking regime applies. The placement of employees in teleworking status is announced in advance at PS ERGANI. For the implementation of this measure will apply what was valid in previous periods of its implementation.

5. Rolling arrival and departure times apply from work so that there is decongestion of public transport. In this case there will be specialization after the necessary consultations between employers and employees.

6. The controls by SEPE are intensified for the observance of the measures of use of mask and distances in the workplaces.

It is reminded that from 1/1/2022 the minimum wage is valid after the increase of 2% that was decided. The Prime Minister’s statements on the new process of determining the minimum wage, which will lead to an additional increase in the first half of 2022, also apply.

In addition to, from 1/1/2022 the program “First Seal” is implemented for young people 18-29 years without previous service for their first entry into the labor market. According to the provisions governing the program, each new part-time job, of indefinite or definite duration, created and included in the “First Seal”, is subsidized for a period of six months with a total of 1200 euros if it is a full-time position and 600 euros in the case of a part-time job, with the amount being split equally between the company and the new hire. This motivates young people on the one hand to look for the interested company that will hire them to receive the subsidy, on the other hand employers to create new jobs as wage costs will be reduced.
