Congress enacts PEC on Benefits

The National Congress enacted, in the early evening of this Thursday (14), the constitutional amendment arising from the PEC of Benefits, approved this Wednesday (13) by the Chamber of Deputies.

President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) left the Planalto on foot and crossed the street that separates the headquarters of the Federal Executive and the Senate. He entered through one of the annexes of the Senate and, after walking inside the House, arrived at the plenary, where the session took place.

In speeches, the president of Congress and the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), and the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), stated that the benefits package measures will help to reduce the negative impact of the economy in the most vulnerable part of the population.

Companies listed on the Brazilian stock exchange recorded a balance of BRL 439 billion in loss of market value in the first half of 2022, according to data from a survey by the Economatica platform.

Of the 343 companies evaluated, 277 had a loss of value between January 1st and June 30th, totaling R$ 583,243,918, or a decrease of 19.31%. Already 66 registered high, totaling R$ 144,060,437, an increase of 14.83%. As a result, the balance was negative, of R$ 439,183,481.

Three of them are in São Paulo, one in Santa Catarina, one in Rio Grande do Sul, one in Minas Gerais and one in Rio de Janeiro. The complete survey comprises 197 universities from 13 countries.

Defense Ministry proposes paper ballot test in voting

The Ministry of Defense proposed a paper ballot test in this year’s elections, during a public hearing in the Senate, this Thursday (14). The proposal was classified by Defense Minister Paulo Sérgio Nogueira as a test of the “integrity” of electronic voting machines.

The head of the Armed Forces team in the Electoral Process Inspection group, Colonel Marcelo Nogueira de Souza, who presented the suggestion to the Senate, explained to parliamentarians that some ballot boxes would be kept in the electoral section in parallel, without being used in official voting.
