Enade registers most students in distance learning courses for the first time

The Ministry of Education released data from the National Student Performance Exam (Enade) 2021, which indicate that, for the first time, the number of students enrolled in distance learning courses is greater than students in face-to-face courses.

Of the total of almost 500 thousand students enrolled in more than 30 areas, 52% (256,802) are in the distance learning modality. However, despite having the majority of students enrolled, distance learning courses represent only 12% of the total number of courses evaluated, which reaches almost 8 thousand.

In addition to the student questionnaire that is already applied normally and which aims to collect information that outlines the socioeconomic profile of the graduates, the 2021 Enade also included a specific questionnaire about the Covid-19 pandemic, which made it possible to carry out a complementary analysis to understand the effective impact of the pandemic on student training.

Enade 2021 was applied on November 14, 2021 and its result was released during a press conference this Monday (12).

The 2020 edition did not take place due to the Covid-19 pandemic, being postponed to the following year. In total, 492,461 students took the test. Among them, 74% are from undergraduate courses, 19% are from bachelor’s degrees and 7% represent technological courses.

According to data from Enade, most students are between 23 and 33 years old (34.8%), followed closely by the group up to 24 years old (32.3%).

The predominant profile of students is single women over 24 years old and with a family income of up to 3 minimum wages, with parents without a college degree and who work more than 20 hours a week.

When separated between types of graduation, the predominant profile of undergraduate students is composed of older black or brown women.

In technological courses and bachelor’s degrees, the predominant profile is white men. Categorizing by type of education, the predominant profile of distance learning is older, married and working more than 40 hours a week.

One of the quality indicators that evaluates courses through the performance of students in Enade is the Enade Concept, which gives grades from 1 to 5 per undergraduate course, with 5 being the highest grade.

According to data from the last evaluation, only 5.7% of the courses enrolled reached the maximum grade. Most courses (39.7%) had a grade of 3. In distance education courses, 41.6% of the courses had a grade of 2, with only 2.3% with a maximum grade.

In the classroom, most courses had a grade of 3 (40%), with 6.2% (407 courses) with a maximum grade.

Approves

Enade began to be applied in 2004 and is one of the assessments that make up the National Higher Education Assessment System (Sinaes). It is divided into separate assessment cycles by course. The areas of knowledge are divided over 3 years, with the year 2021 corresponding to Year 2, consisting of bachelor’s and teaching degrees. Currently, Enade is in the sixth cycle.

The mandatory test for completing the course is composed of 40 questions, 10 of which are part of general training (the same for all courses) and 30 of the part of specific training in the area, both containing discursive and multiple-choice questions.

The next Enade will be applied on November 27 and will evaluate graduates of 26 bachelor’s and higher technology courses linked to Year III.
