End of an era! The Weeknd Announces He Will Stop Using His Stage Name

Singer The Weeknd took all fans by surprise in his interview for “W Magazine” when he announced that we are coming to the end of an era.

The artist revealed that, soon, he should stop using his stage name and will probably continue with his baptismal name: Abel Makkonen Tesfaye.

“The album I’m working on right now is probably my last as The Weeknd. This is something I have to do. As The Weeknd, I’ve said everything I could have said,” he explained.

Singer revealed that he is ready to “change skin and be reborn”. “I still want to make music. Maybe as Abel, maybe as The Weeknd. But I still want to kill The Weeknd. And I will, eventually”, said the owner of the hit “Blinding Lights”.

After accumulating billions of plays on digital platforms, winning four Grammy’s, several Billboard and MTV awards, and entering the Guinness Book of Records with the most streamed album on Spotify in 2017, Abel is ready to close The Weeknd’s chapter.

This is not the first time that stars have changed their stage names after good career years. Kanye West made the switch to Ye, in 2021, and claimed personal reasons. Katy Perry has already recorded a gospel album with her birth name: Kate Hudson. Ludmilla abandoned Mc Beyoncé and launched herself into music under her real name.

And there are those who returned to the original name, as was the case with Snoop Dog. The singer has already tried to play “Snoopzila” and “Snoop Lion”, but he remained famous for his first stage name.
