Endless mourning in Brazil: Coronavirus deaths exceed 470,000

The Brazilian Ministry of Health announced yesterday Friday that in the previous 24 hours the deaths of another 1,454 patients with Covid-19 were recorded and another 37,936 cases of SARS-CoV-2 were confirmed.

The largest Latin American country has so far recorded 470,842 deaths out of a total of almost 16.84 infections.

Deaths have fallen compared to the peak of the second wave in April, but remain at a consistently high level.

Brazil officially records the second heaviest pandemic in the world, behind only the United States, and the third highest number of infections, behind the United States and India.

Argentina: More than 80,000 deaths

Argentina exceeded the limit of 80,000 deaths due to Covid-19 yesterday, with a total of about 4 million cases of new coronavirus infection since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the data of the country’s health authorities.

In the previous 24 hours, another 539 patients with Covid-19 died, while another 30,950 cases of SARS-CoV-2 were confirmed. The total number of deaths now reaches 80,411, while the average number of new daily deaths was over 500 last week.

At the end of 2020, Argentina recorded 43,000 deaths. Since the beginning of 2021, this number has almost doubled, according to official figures.

At the same time, 7,668 people are hospitalized in intensive care units, a number that equates to a fullness rate of 78.2% nationally.

The capital, Buenos Aires, and its region, home to 15 million people out of a population of 45 million, remain at the heart of the pandemic.

Argentina wants to give a new impetus to its vaccination race from next week, when it will start producing the Russian Sputnik V vaccine in its territory.

To date, 11 million people have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 in the Latin American country.
